Industrial Hygiene is the science of anticipating, recognizing, evaluating and controlling workplace conditions that may cause workers’ injury or illness. Industrial hygienist use environmental monitoring and analytical methods to detect the extent of worker exposure and employ engineering, administrative controls, and using PPE (Personal Protective Equipment to control potential health hazards.
Oshindo Medika Pratama held a presentation on Introduction to Industrial Hygiene and Minister of Manpower Regulation No. 5 of 2018 concerning Occupational Safety and Health in the Work Environment on March 17, 2022. This activity was brought by dr. Dewi Kurniawaty, MKK as Occupational Health Doctor of PT. Oshindo Medika Pratama/Klinik Medilab. She explained the importance of implementing Industrial Hygiene and related regulations that must be met to support Occupational Health and Safety policies in the company.
The implementation of Industrial Hygiene is carried out through a Work Environment Examination to determine the potential hazards that may cause Work-related Diseases. The types of potential hazards that are included in the Minister of Manpower’s Regulation No. 5 of 2018 are Physical Factors, Chemical Factors, Biological Factors, Ergonomic Factors and Psychological Factors plus Hygiene and Sanitation Assessments where companies are required to carry out a Work Environment Examination at least once a year.
